The Herefordshire Painting Club is a plein air painting club, meeting one day a week Monday to Friday from April to September, at interesting venues around our beautiful county.

The club is dedicated to encouraging local artists to come together to enjoy creating art out in the open in front of the subject, i.e. "en plein air".

The benefits of "en plein air" far outweigh any difficulties. In choosing the subject, one has to focus on aspects which are important leaving out unnecessary detail. The vitality of the scene helps decisions about tone, colour, composition and perspective.

Painters of all degrees of experience are warmly welcomed - no minimum standard applies. It's easy to fit in because help and advice are available if wanted. You do not need a lot of equipment. Members paint in a variety of styles using a wide range of media (e.g. watercolour, pastels, acrylics, gouache, oils, charcoal, pencil, pen & wash). They paint all sorts of subjects, e.g. landscape, buildings, trees, flowers, gardens, gates, old barns, derelict tractors, odd corners of farms. On painting days, members usually sit together at lunch to chat or to share on any aspect of art.
